Travel channel : Philippines

Posted by WELLA at Thursday, February 28, 2008

I watched bizarre food by Andrew Zimmern in travel channel last sunday and they featured the Philippines. Andrew tried our ever famous Balut, which is the Top 1 for the Most Terrifying Food in the world , click here to see the honorable mention. He also tried the Soup No. 5, the Uok (a golf ball size worm), which was for him it has a terrible taste and texture. The stuffed frog and crickets, and there is one in palawan i forgot the name, it is also a worm that can be found in a trunk of a tree. This worms eat woods. Kala ko termites lang and si woodywood pecker ang mahilig sa kahoy... hahaha.

He also tried the street foods like, Banana Que (ay miss ko na 'to.. eto ang snacks ko after school when I was in college, nsa hallway namen 'to.. at si manang di sugapa sa asukal, todo bigay kaya masarap), ice cream on hamburger buns, eto di ko pa natrtry but says na mas masarap compared sa ice cream cone. According to Andrew, its like a bun with a butter. Yikes, I don't eat butter pa naman pag ginagawang palaman. He ate the tupig (tama ba?) basta its one of our kakanin that is made of rice and coconut then wrapped in a banana leaf then grilled. Nakatikim na rin ako nito and masarap nga. Ukoy which he called it shrimp pancake, sosyal di ba and fried little chicks na color orange. Curious ako bket color orange? Hayyy... as I watching this, lalo kong namiss ang Pinas. To read more about Andrew's adventure in the Philippines, just click the link.

Extra: Sorry guys for not doing some tags and thank you for the awards, grabe hirap gumawa ng speech.. hehehe

The palawan worm is called tamilok. I tried and ate some. Taste like bagoong. And a bit greasy and hard to chew.
